I paid $69.99 for the HBO MAX trial 6 month period. My wife wanted to watch a new Denzel Washington movie. And three days after I paid we did watch the movie and it was horrible. Boring, no real plot plus Washington looked like he had aged 20 years.
Anyway, I then spent at least an hour looking at what they offer and could not find ONE series, movie etc that I would have watched. I used to have HBO with my XFINITY plan but dropped it years ago. HBO MAX's shows are junk! Loads of cartoon shows; series that go back many years; movies (like DIE HARD) that go back 33 years. In other words there was nothing I would watch. If I had been able to see what HBO MAX offered before buying the 6 month trial there's no way I would have done it. Plus, get this! As mentioned the price i saw was $69.99 for 6 months but when I looked at my credit card statement they had charged me $79.98. I called them about this and asked what this extra $10 was for and the answer was "taxes" which by the way I never saw in the original advertised e mail I received for the trial. SO when questioned about what taxes they told me:
5.07% "State tax" rate +
2.37% Gross receipts tax rate
7.44% "State tax" + the gross receipts tax = "Florida CST"
As you can see, this includes a State tax.
But, additionally, you are also subject to local taxes as determined by your ZIP code, 32927. The taxes for this ZIP code according to the spreadsheet found at the above link are 5.420%.
7.44% + 5.420% = 12.86%, resulting in the $78.99 charge you were billed when applied to $69.99.
I subscribe to NETFLIX and AMAZON PRIME and both are $15 per month with NO TAX at all.
I mentioned all of this to them but still they said no refund.
Please DO NOT get conned into getting HBO MAX. It's not worth it at all.

HBO MAX is the worst streaming service. First the initial offer says $69.99 for six months but then when you look at your credit card statement they’ve charged you $79.99 and when questioned they say it’s Some kind of tax but no one can say what kind of a tax it is. I live in Florida and tax here is 7% but $10 is a lot more than 7%. Then look at when they offer. 30 year old movies. Loads of cartoon series. Loads of age old series. All total junk. Take my advice and give the $69.99 to a bum on the street

Poor customer service

Poor customer service. Ordered HBO Max for tv and made you get activate code on another device. While doing so, there was no direction to where you may put in access code. Following through I ended up ordering HBO Max twice. Did not know until I looked on bill.
Called customer service which was pleasant but both times stated they have to make request for refund in one purchase.
I have received two emails stating no refund will be issued as that is their policy.
So because their set up to activate is not user friendly and now I have to double for HBO Max. Quite unfair and poor customer service!

Picture quality and transmission are…

Picture quality and transmission are absolutely pitiful. Constantly pausing making it difficult to follow let alone finish a show in a single seating. Picture quality starts out fuzzy and continues way to long.

CRASHES, FREEZES, NOBODY CARES STILL

Now I've been a paying customer for almost a year now, and I love to watch movies. I watch movies all the time, I wake up in the morning and watch a movie for breakfast, and I put myself to sleep with a movie almost every night. I use the HBO MAX app on my appleTV to watch the movies I like, but there's a problem with the HBO app that causes problems for myself and many other viewers. For one, I can't even rewind/fast forward using the apple remote. I know how to program computers, remotes, and many other accessories, it isn't complex. Even though programming a remote isn't that complicated, the team at HBO doesn't even know how to program a "rewind 10 seconds" tap function on the edge of the touchpad of the remote (for their app, they don't program the remote), they literally just made every edge of the touchpad pause the movie if you press it. The only way to rewind or fast forward is by sliding your finger across the trackpad of the remote, to which you get a VERY over exaggerated response and skip a whole 5 minutes+ per swipe, no matter how delicate.
Now we'll acknowldge the PS4 issues. EVERY time this app runs on playstation, the system freezes at some point, and we're stuck at a never-ending loading screen with 3 dots on the bottom center of the screen, giving the impression it's loading something, although it just sits idle forever.
NO OTHER APP DOES THIS TO ME.
I can't believe it's 2021 and the people still need to remind businesses how to successfully do business (via review/twitter), while the business itself capsizes under the pressure of it's donors/financial weight, telling it to go against the people keeping it alive.
Maybe if HBO, Apple and SONY weren't all too busy fist fuqk!ng each other out of money and customers, maybe we'd have a more uniform coding system that'd prevent miscommunicative fuqk-ups like the ones we consumers are required to pay for (i.e. reward your incompetence and coding inabilities)(no please, I would LOVE to pay for all 7 types of UNIVERSAL serial bus cables, PLEASE). Maybe if we just tried moving together as a herd, and not slam against each other like we're in a fuqk!n mosh pit, maybe we'd actually make some distance in any fuqk!ng direction. Maybe?
So are you're like me, someone who fuqked up and thought he was paying for something IMPROVED over the "other competetors", who accidentally thought that just because they had the big name "HBO" that they'd spend the money to hire decent coders to catch this popular streaming wave everyone else is riding, and tame it, instead of ripping off a bunch of 20yr old interns as free slave labor. Someone who expects technology to get better, not because time has passed, but because someone actually IMPROVED something for people. If you're like me, send a message like mine, expressing how little effort is needed to maintain a streaming service. It's servers, contracts and fuqk!ng meetings with rich people (oops, almost left out the captions department, SORRY GUISE, don't worry your hard work is appreciated too, even though you don't even get cast member's name's right, let alone music discriptions,I mean c'mon they show the names at the end, fuqk).
HBO you fuqk!ng suck corn out of ass. You overpriced knockoff. Shame on you for having Yankees cash while funding a Bad News Bears little league team to run your future cutting tech, while saving your big bucks for high-ends contract deals you know others won't be able to afford. You fuqk!ng dinosaurs. Brush that combover out and get back to yellin at the young whipper-snappers that didn't get your coffee right, maybe that'll fix it, just make sure you don't do anything the satisfy the customer, because let's face it, why the fuqk would you care to do that? Nah, just go yell at the guys younger and more intelligent than you, gaslight them, threaten their job security, pull whatever strings you need to as an incompetent, dying beast in order to get the life you could never provide for yourself. Keep using that fake play money to give yourself a true belief that you aren't dying and fading from this world every day, a withering god amongst men. Keep doing that while I laugh at the REAL entertainment of the evening. You flailing fuqk!ng dinosaurs. (Now Ex-customer)

Took Off Impractical Jokers Without Warning

I was in the middle of watching Impractical Jokers and the show just disappeared out of nowhere, without warning. The dumb broad just assumed they took it off. I’m convincing my husband to cancel HBO Max. I’m VERY p*ssed off about this.

Not so good

HBO Max is not worth it. Their app is always so messy and the content is not as great. They hype up the new movies but half of the time it doesn't even work. There is always some issue unless you are using brand new devices. I have seen this strategy before, HBO Max is creating hype on purpose to put their numbers up there. They ruin the industry.

HBO gets worse and worse as time goes by...you need to step up your game, Netflix is outpacing you hard.

Hbo has on refund policy

Hbo has really very poor selection of movies. I have the service for a week now and no good movies to watch anymore. I contacted them for refund as I paid for 6 months. I asked for refund for the rest of 5 months and they told me they have no refund policy so be careful and not pay for this service at all because it really not worth it. I joined to them just to watch the new wonder woman and it is not there. This their response:
My name is Dillan from HBO Max Advanced Support.  I’m following up with you regarding your refund request.
Thank you for your patience as we reviewed your request.  HBO Max has a no refund policy.
Upon further review and under the billing terms for HBO Max, we're unable to issue you a refund.
